Shanto-Mariam–Honghe Confucius Classroom Successfully Holds 2026 International Chinese Language Day Event

About the Event
On April 20, 2026, the Shanto-Mariam–Honghe Confucius Classroom(SMHHCC) successfully held the “Chinese Culture Experience & Chinese Language Program Promotion Campaign” at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), Bangladesh, to celebrate International Chinese Language Day.
The event was hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of China and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, organized by the SMHHCC and IUBAT, and co-organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka(CIDU) and the Confucius Institute at North South University(CINSU). More than 200 participants, including representatives from the Chinese Embassy, university leaders, faculty members, and students, attended the event.
In the event, Prof. Selina Nargis highlighted that learning Chinese creates opportunities and strengthens China-Bangladesh friendship; Mr. Li Shaopeng noted that Chinese serves as a bridge connecting China and the world and encouraged students to promote bilateral friendship; Director Wang Liqiong emphasized that Chinese proficiency expands opportunities for Bangladeshi students and reaffirmed commitment to further cooperation in Chinese language education.
A variety of Chinese and Bangladeshi cultural performances were presented, including Air Volleyball Chinese martial arts, Guzheng, and traditional Chinese dance, as well as Bangladeshi traditional dances performed by IUBAT students and faculty, fully demonstrating the vitality of cultural exchange between the two countries.
During the Chinese language promotion session, a teacher from SMHHCC introduced the curriculum system and the HSK test, offering students a clear pathway for Chinese language learning. Representative of IUBAT’s first Chinese class, Ms. Marjia Akter, shared her personal experience of learning Chinese, which greatly inspired the audience and stimulated students’ interest in Chinese language study. A graduation ceremony for the first Chinese language class at IUBAT was also held. Prof. Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, concluded by praising China’s civilization, encouraging Chinese study, and supporting continued cooperation with China.
A cultural experience zone featuring Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting, mask painting, Hanfu experience, tea culture, and interactive activities attracted wide participation. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi traditional food and handicrafts were also showcased, creating a friendly and engaging atmosphere for mutual cultural appreciation.
The event further enhanced the influence of Chinese language education at IUBAT and injected new momentum into China-Bangladesh educational and cultural exchange. In the future, SMHHCC will continue to deepen cooperation, improve teaching quality, and promote sustained people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
